This picture of the wonderful old Dance Hall (Pavilion) was
taken on he CNR picnic, which was usually held on the third
Saturday in July.  It was almost as large as he Caterer's Picnic
which was usually held on the 2nd Saturday in July.
About 50,00 people would come out from Winnipeg, using
about 10 special trains, each of which contained 20 coaches
and several baggage cars.  Both were exciting days, and as a
Lllifeguard, we had to be very vigilant.
Did you notice that all the people in the picture are looking
towards the left?  This was 19o41, and I was in my first year as
Llifeguard at Grand Beach.  I remember the day well.  All the
people were watching a prize fight in a specially constructed
Boxing ring. I also remember that Steve Trojack,  a famous
local Winnipeg heavywight was the referee.
